Dave Campbell's Texas Football's 50th Anniversary Special Edition is on the

newstands now.....It's a nice trip down Nostalgia Road with many articles and items

from the first 50 years of publication.....It is a must read for any fan of Texas Football

and of the magazine.....

As i was "grading" my papers....checking on how well i did on my picks i was

relatively pleased knowing i had done fairly well.....Out of a total of 50 games and

tossing out the 2 forfeits and the Claude game that left 47 games which i hit a 38-9

on picks for an 80.9% average which for me is pretty darn good....i have always said

my average lies around 71.....but for the last 4 weeks i have hit 78.7%, 95.2%, 75.0%

and now an 80.9%.....It's not quite time to pack my bags and head to Las Vegas but

my recent picks ain't bad for an ole Fat Boy.............

...2-5A...DCTF's pre-season pick as the toughest district in the state of Texas in 5A

...The "Little Southwest Conference".....I hit a 5-0 last week in 2-5A but this week i

...got down to a little more my speed with a 3-2.....Here is how week 9 unravelled...

-

Amarillo High.....27.......................Midland Lee.....20.................................*AH+11

The Sandies outscored Lee 17 to 6 in the 2nd half to force the lead Amarillo High's

way and eventually the win.....Even with the total yards of 332 Midland to 253 Amarillo

the foot of AHS's Sasser contributed 2 pat kicks and field goals of 26 and 44 yards to

account for 8 points in the scoring. The win leaves the Sandies record at 6-2 D...7-2 All

and locks down a playoff spot for Amarillo High.....

-

Odessa Permian.....21.................Ama Tascosa.....13................................*OP+16

The Rebels led at the Half 7-0 and led in the 3rd quarter 13-7 before "Mojo" scored

the final 14 points to put the game away. Tascosa held thier own until the 4th quarter

despite trailing in total yards 184 to Permian's 347 and Permian coughed up the ball

twice on fumbles and 1 pass intercepted compared to no fumbles for Tascosa and

only 1 pick in the passing game. Permian's record is now 6-2 D...6-3 All and they

still are in a dogfight with Midland high and Midland Lee for 1 of the 2 available

playoff slots.....

-

Lubbock Monterey.....31..............Lubbock High.....10................................X LH+ 1

In a battle of the Doomed (Eliminated from Playoffs). I tried to take the Westerners

over the Plainsmen to no avail.......In a game for nothing more than pride i kinda

thought Lubbock High would go for win # 3 but it was Monterey that wanted it worse.

-

(#18)Odessa High.....28...............Midland High.....21................................* OH+23

Looking back +23 was a little excessive but i didn't figure the Bronchos would play

such a tight game with so much on the line.....However Midland High is also scratching

and clawing for one of the 2 unclaimed payoff berths.....Odessa High Clinches the

District 2-5A Crown + a playoff spot with this win and is now 8-0 D...8-1 ALL

-

San Angelo Central.....26.............Lubbock Coronado.....14........................X LC+22

San Angelo hasn't won a game all year so why would i pick them to win here ? well

i didn't and they burned me. Coronado is mathmatically out of the playoffs and the

Bobcats are just playing for fun now as they never were in a playoff spot race.....

-----

.....ok lets see what havoc week 10 brings upon this monster district

-

Amarillo High + 18....................at.....Lubbock High..........***Thursday Nov 5***

The Sandies have already secured a playoff berth so a loss would not matter here

but Amarillo High needs one more convincing victory to head into the playoffs with

finishing 7-2 D...8-2 All.......to Lubbock's 2-7 D...2-8 All

-

San Angelo Central..................at.....Ama Tascosa + 6

Neither team is going to the playoffs so neither has much incentive to win.....Tascosa

may come out flat and "Angelo" got thier 1st victory last week.....it could happen but

i'll count on the Rebels to pull this one out in thier last home game this season.....

-

Lubbock Coronado..................Vs.....Lubbock Monterey + 8

Another game of the walking wounded....nothing to be gained by either team here

except pride and Monterey looked pretty good the last time i saw them play.....

-

Midland High..........................at.....Odessa Permian + 17

This game is a must win for both and the victor gets into the playoffs and possiblythe

loser too as Midland Lee must win over Odessa High which is no easy task. MOJO

has been here before and can usually manage to win a big game when needed plus

the playoff await them with a victory here

-

(#17)Odessa High.................at.....Midland Lee +3.......*** Upset Special ***

Lee is expected to lose then sweat out the score of the Midland-Odessa game to

see if they are playoff bound....But why go through all that when all Lee has to do

is take down Odessa High in Midland and they don't have to worry about any other

scores.....yeah it's a risky pick.....but it looks good on paper......

-----

...3-5A.....Abilene Only.......week 9 game.....

-

(#17)Abilene.....45..............Fort Worth Richland.....14.......<<>>...*AB+31

Direct hit on a +31 spread.....FW Richland is the best team in the district next to

Abilene which partially explains the lack of a 67-14 score. Abilene has also won the

district crown and a playoff berth and now has a record of 5-0 D...8-0 All.....This Abilene

team appears to be much better than last years which suffered a first round TKO in

the 2008 playoffs.....

-

.....and week 10 doth bringeth.....

-

North Crowley..................at.....(#15)Abilene + 46

The Crowley boys are 1-8 overall and entering hostile territory in Shotwell Stadium to

play the Eagles whose record for the last 3 seasons is 30-3.....this does not look good

---

4-5-6-7-8-------5A-------All Metro-Plex

-----

4A

.....1-2-----4A-----All El Paso Area

...3-4A.....week 9 game results.......

-

Pampa.....42......................Ama Caprock.....26..........................................X AC+16

This loss turned Caprock into roadkill as they are now eliminated from the playoffs

and this is only Pampa's 2nd win of the season.....Caprock is now 1-3 D...4-5 All

while Pampa clings to life with a 2-2 D...2-7 All....the key being those 2 district wins

and with Canyon having only 1 playoff ticket punched there are 2 more which 4 teams

have a chance for in the last game of the season.....

-

Ama Palo Duro.....34...***Overtime***.....Dumas......31...***Overtime***.........X DM+ 6

After all that bragging i did on Dumas improving throughout the seasonand now this

but i gotta hand it to Dumas as they made PD work for it even dragging the game

into OT. Both teams are now tied for 2nd in the district and after Canyon (Dist. Champ)

earned a playoff spot there are 2 more to pass out among 5 teams in which all the

game scenarios involve quantum Physics....i tihnk i'll just wait for week 10 scores...

-

Canyon.....48...........................Canyon Randall.....24..................................* CY+22

one game kept me from getting shut out in my 3-4A picks.....Canyon is serious about

this playoff business and even though they locked up the Dist. Champs and a playoff

spot they will be running full steam ahead.....

---

...ok.....week 10 is gonna look something like this.....

-

Ama Caprock.......................at.....Canyon + 29

The Longhorns must defeat Canyon now after last weeks loss to stay in the playoff hunt

but Canyon is on a missionand it's not going to happen.....

-

Ama Palo Duro + 8...............at.....Pampa

another squirrley game to pick...PD in at 2-2 D...3-6 All and Pampa with 2-2 D...2-7 All

one could easily argue pampa at home with a glorious victory vaulting them into the

playoffs and Palo Duro's wins and losses are so irradic.....this is easily a coin toss

but i'm gonna try the Dons on the road securing a playoff spot.....

-

Canyon Randall...................at.....Dumas + 15

Dumas got shot down in overtime last week but they still have a chance for a playoff

berth.....No mistakes for the Demons at home this time as they end Randall's season.

-----

...4-4A.....week 9 went something like this

-

(#10)Abilene Cooper.....21..............Wolfforth Frenship.....7..........................* AC+18

Cooper ends up 4-0 D...6-3 All.....and Frenship will miss the playoffs for the first time

in many years.....this was just ot thier year

-

(#15)Big Spring.....43....................San Angelo Lake View.....2.....................* BG+30

The Steers bounce back after a good thumpin by Abilene Cooper and now hold on to

a 3-1 D...8-1 All record.....while Lake View is in the dumper with 4 very good teams

ahead of them hogging up the playoff passes

-

Hereford.....30.............................Plainview.....14.........................................*HD+22

I kinda thought Hereford would run it up but then Plainview has shown some signs

of improvement over the last month.....Hereford is in good shape to claim playoff spot #3

-----

5-6-7-8-----4A------All Metro-Plex

-----

3A

.......1-3A week 9 happenings.....

-

Borger.....21...........................Lubbock Cooper.....13......<<<>>>...*BG+ 8

yeah....another yahtzee !...right on the +8 spread.....Borger continues to impress as the

season goes on now with a record of 4-0 D...7-2 All.....and check this out...Borger's

PF/PA ratio is 247-226....so they have won 7 games with only 21 points to play with

(226+21 = 247)....now thats cutting it tight.....poor Cooper is now about used up...

they are mathmatically alive for a playoff spot but the scenarios are so complex that

they even involve Geiger counters.....

-

Lubbock Estacado.....27...........Dalhart.....17...............................................X DH+ 6

Arghhh....Dalhart shot me down....but remember we are talking district games and that

can cause some wierd results as this one win put Estacado in sole possesion of 2nd

place in the dist...leaving Dalhart and Perryton squirming below at 2-2 D hutning a spot

-

Perryton.....66..........................Levelland...34..............................................* PY+25

it doesn't look like Perryton wanted to take any chances on another 1 point loss as

Levelland is eliminated from the playoffs and Perryton takes on Dalhart in week 10

to see whom of the 2 is playoff bound

---

.......and the week 10 chalkboard sezz....

-

Lubbock Estacado...................at.....Borger + 8

Estacado really needs this win so they won't have to worry about the Dalhart-Perryton

outcome.....but this is most likely the last chance for the folks in Borger to see thier

boys at home and the Bulldawgs want to close the season in style before they ship out

downstate for the extra games tourney

-

Parryton.................................at.....Dalhart +4

This look fairly even on paper until you see dalhart has given up only 94 points in 9

games while Perryton has given up 234 points in 9 games...that is a big difference in

defenses.....i'm going with Dalhart's D at home with that unlucky 4

-

Lubbock Cooper +14...............at.....Levelland

Levelleand has won 1 game all season and it was not a district game as they come in 0-4

dist compared to Coopers 1-3 D...whichisn't much better but Cooper has to win if they

hope to get a seat on the playoff bus

-----

..........2-3A.....week 9 & stuff.....

-

(#12)Graham.....13................(#3)Abilene Wylie.....10.....................................X AY+11

My Mighty Wylie has fallen.....Brownwood beat Graham 28-27 and Abilene Wylie

beat Brownwood 41-21.....?!?! this was a defensive battle as both teams usually score well up into the 40's and Wylie's punishment was being ousted from #3 and moved to #8 in the

top 25 poll while Graham went from #12 to #7

-

Snyder.....35........................Breckenridge.....0.............................................* SY+26

There's the Snyder i saw in Amarillo....they could have really done some damage if they

could have played each game like this

-

(#11)Brownwood.....42..........Sweetwater.....0................................................* BW+27

Brownwood still fired up over thier win over Graham in week 8 and poof Sweetwater has

been rode hard and put away wet......

---

......and the week 10 forecast......

-

(#8)Abilene Wylie + 40..........at.....Sweetwater

Things just are not getting better for Sweetwater as Wylie will arrive in a foul mood over

the loss to Graham.....and Sweetwater continues to play ranked teams

-

(#7)Graham + 31.................at.....Breckenridge

And Graham is still fired up over beating Wylie which is not good for "Breck"...they have won 1 game all season and thats the way things will end up as Graham is in playoff mode

-

Snyder..............................at.....(#11)Brownwood + 13

Oh i want to take Snyder in an upset.....but i don't know which team will show up and

Brownwood has been about as bad waffeling on the points.....ok i'll stay on "Bwood"

at home gearing up for the "Dance"

-----

...3-3A.....week 9 recap.....

-

Seminole.....31.................Andrews.....13...................................................* SM+11

Seminole is trying to make sure they nail down a playoff spot while Andrews is almost

gone for the season. they are both now 2-2 D but Seminole of course has the heads up

-

(#5)Monahans.....47............Brownfield.....0..................................................*MN+41

Monahans just keeps on a steam rolling along and now sits at 4-0 D...9-0 All in command

of the dist. champs throphy

-

Midland Greenwood.....21...........Lamesa.....6..........<<<>>>......*MG+15

whats that now 3 Yahtzees ?...yikes...Greenwood winds up in sole possesion of 2nd

place in dist. at 3-1 D...6-3...All

---

.....and for week 10 games.....

-

Brownfield...........................at.....Andrews + 22

Brownfield hasn't won a game all year while Andrews still has an outside chance at a playoff spot.....Andrews won't mess this one up.....

-

Seminole + 25....................at.....Lamesa

Seminole has to win just in case Andrews wins, which both should happen and the

Indians have a pretty good little team.....

-

Midland Greenwood............at.....(#4)Monahans + 24

Greenwood is a good little team and will be able to keep a throttle on Monahans but not

for the whole game...thats what brought my guess down to +24 instead of + 41? or so

-----

4-----3A-----El Paso Area

5-6-7-8-----3A-----All Metro-Plex

-----

2A

.......1-2A Home of the impending State Champion Bushland Tech "Red Raiders"

...............heres is the week 9 run down

-

Panhandle.....49.......................Ama Highland Park.....0................................*PN+23

OK...it was a gimme...The total yards favored the Panthers 450 to 123 for the Hornets

with Panhandle rushing for 306 yards compared to HP's 19.....pretty much a wipe out

-

Bushland.....48.......................Ama River Road.....14....................................*BU+47

You have to give River Road credit for scoring 14 points on "Tech"...second only to

Perryton's 21 points scored against the Falcons.....and the lowest margin of victory

which is 26 points still belongs to Stratford.....River Road still can claim a playoff spot

-

Sanford-Fritch.....6.................Spearman.....0...............................................*SF+ 9

One lone touchdown in the 3rd quarter (PAT kick failed) in this defensive blockade

total yards for SF were 205 (98 rush--107 pass) compared to Spearman's total yards

of 177 (40 rush--137 pass)...Sanford-Fritch stays alive for a playoff berth while the Lynx

have pretty much shot themselves in the foot.....

---

.......and week 10 with a long paragraph of scenerios to decide playoff teams looks

.......like this.....*Bushland of course has won the Dist. Crown and a playoff slot.....

.......the other 2 playoff spots are still available for 4 teams.....

-

(#3)Bushland + 57................at.....Ama Highland Park

Haris will (NL)-no line this one, but i'll take a stab at +57....just another routine 500 yards

of offense for the Falcons and the Hornets will be defensless to stop it.....

-

Sanford Fritch.....................at.....Ama River Road + 11

if Sanford-Fritch wins they are in the playoffs......River Road must win and count on Panhandle to take down Spearman...then they get the 3rd playoff spot and from there

it gets really wierd.....so i'm thinking River Road comes out smokin and wins at home

-

Panhandle + 6....................at.....Spearman

By the Panthers winning this game....things stay relatively simple.....if Spearman wins

that will set up only 1 of two possible 3 way tie situations.....so i River Road and Panhandle wins none of us will have to dust off the abacus to figure this one out.....

-----

..........2-2A.......The Mules are sitting pretty with Friona and both teams are IN the

..........playoffs.....Fridays game see these 2 at 4-0 D go at it for the District Crown

-

.......and the week 9 happenings were.....

-

Friona.....35.................................Childress.....28.....................................* FR+13

I don't know what has gotten into Childress who started the season rather sickly

against Stratford but they have been improving and of later they have greatly improved

fighting Friona tooth and nail and scoring 22 fourth quarter points to scare the be-jesus

out of Friona.....Total Yards were Friona 470 to Childress' 319....the Chieftains stay

perfect in district play at 4-0 D...7-2 All which sets up this weeks showdown with

Muleshoe to play for the District title....

-

(#8)Muleshoe.......56....................Dimmitt.....0..........................................*MS+33

Muleshoe QB Jared Skipworth passed for 19 out of 32 attempts and no interceptions

for 269 yards and 5 TD's while rolling out 502 yards of total offense compared to the

Bobcats 151 total yards.....just a little more target practice for the mules.....

-

Floydada.....1.....**Forfeit**...........Tulia.....0.............................................NO PICK

---

.......and week 10 brings the following action

-

Childress.....1.....**Forfeit**..........Tulia.....0.............................................NO PICK

-

Floydada + 8..........................at.....Dimmitt

Floydada should win this low scoring affair......if not it sets another famous 3 way tie

to decide who gets the final playoff slot

-

(#8)Muleshoe(4-0 D...9-0 All) + 15............at......Friona(4-0 D...7-2 All)

Both teams have a playoff berth but this game decides who the district champ will

be and i expect Friona to put up a heck of a rumble...but in the end the Mules grind

the Chieftains down and win the district crown on the road.....

-----

.....3-2A.......8 teams and 4 "extra game" passes to hand out

.......heres how week 9 fell out of the bag.....

-

Idalou.......30.............................Abernathy.....21.....<<<>>>.......* ID+ 9

yikes that 4 so far.....Idalou has been averaging only 17.6 points for in 8 games so the

likelyhood of them getting 30 points wasn't all that probable but they pulled it off when

they needed to taking down a spirited Abernathy team who scored 21 points on a defense

that had given up only 12.3 points per game over an 8 game stretch in a district where 7

of the 8 teams are still mathmatically alive for a playoff berth.....

-

Littlefield.....48..........................Denver City 28............................................*LF+22

The Wildcats inch even closer to the Dist. title remaining 1 game ahead of Post who

ironically is Littlefields opponent for the last game of the season to decide who gets to

take the Dist. Champ crown home with them as Littlefield now stands at 6-0 D...8-1 All

compared to Denver City's 2-4 D...2-5 All record which still leaves them a chance at one

of the 4 playoff berths.....

-

Shallowater.....70.....................Lubbock Roosevelt.....12..............................*SW+ 8

Wowsers.....Shallowater likes to make a statement while it stays in the race for a

playoff slot finishing at 3-3 D...6-3 All which is good enough to hold sole possesion

of 4th place in the Dist. standings with 3 more right beneath at 2-4 D and all with a

slim chance to make the playoffs.....

-

Post.....48...............................Slaton.....12...............................................*PO+26

Post has been coming on strong during the 2nd half of the season already securing

a playoff berth with a 5-1 D...7-2 All record which set up the big one next week where

Post and Littlefield get together to decide who the Dist. champ will be

---

.......and the week 10 festivities shake out thusly.....

-

Shallowater + 26.......................at.....Abernathy

I don't believe Abernathy can penetrate Shallowaters defense for 35 points which is what it

will probably take to have a chance to take them down. And Shallowater most likely will

end it's scoring somewhere in the 50's to be sure they get one of the playoff tickets.....

-

Denver City..............................at.....Lubbock Roosevelt + 8

both 2-4 D and in the running just barely for a playoff spot both teams will be tossing

everything they have into this game as desparation mode kicks in but something just

tells me the home field advantage makes the difference.....

-

Idalou +13...............................at.....Slaton

Idalou needs this win to keep from getting involved in all kinds of ties and tiebreaker

solutions...all they need is a win and they are in while poor Slaton is in the valley of doom

-

Post......................................at.....Littlefield + 6

Post is already in the playoffs but with a win here can capture the Dist. Crown also.

I don't see Littlefield letting that happen in thier house as they take the Dist. honors

2-1A........B L A N K

-

.......3-1A.......week 9 games went like this.......

-

Bovina.....21.................................Vega.....7.................................................*BV+31

While Vega is not known for it's defense it did a pretty good job holding Bovina which

had been averaging 38.2 points a game down to just 21 points although Bovina did lose

2 fumbles it also gained a turnover by intercepting a Vega pass.....the stats which show

Bovina with 268 rush--16 pass for total yards of 284 against Vega's 249 rush--52 pass

for total yards of 301.....so the score and the stats do not compute when you figure

thats Bovina is 7-2 overall compared to Vega's 1-8 record

-

White Deer.....28..........................Boys Ranch.....8......................................X BR+ 6

I felt safe with Boys Ranch at home +6.....White Deer managed 174 rush--77 pass for

a total of 251 yards and Boys Ranch had 227 rush--36 pass for a total of 263 yards but

the key to the game was White Deers ability to pounce out to a 16-0 lead in the 1st Qtr.

-

Nazareth.....40............................Claude.....8..............................................NO PICK

Claude is now 0-27 since early 2007.....Nazareth did show some mercy putting in the

2nd string and JV players early to keep this from going to 80-8.....

---

.......and the 3-1A dream sheet for week 10.....

-

Bovina + 11..........................at.....White Deer

both teams have a 3-1 Dist mark right behind 4-0 D Nazareth and with Boys Ranch out

the winner of this game won't matter as both will get a playoff slot.....

-

Boys Ranch.........................at.....Nazareth + 23

Sadly Boys Ranch is out of the playoff race.....The Swift Foxes can win the District

title outright with a win here....i like that plan..."Naz" + 23 at home for the Gold football

-

Claude...............................at.....Vega.......NO PICK..................................NO PICK

Claude will be 0/28 after this game.....no challenge in picking this one

-----

.......4-1A.....the 2nd toughest Dist. in 1A per DCTF bolstered by the fact that just like

..................1-1A they also have 3 teams in the 1A top 25 Poll

-

(#25)Clarendon.....49.....................Memphis.....13....<<<<>>>....* CL+36

Yahtzee # 4 ! on a 36 spread.....the score after the 1st Qtr was Clarendon 7--Memphis 6

then the Bronchos got busy and ripped off 28 unanswered points in the 2nd Qtr with 4

running TDs of 15, 55, 40 and 55 yards with Clarendon finishing with 390 rush--112 pass

for total yards of 502...compared to Memphis' 8 Rush--99 Pass for a total of 107 yards

which makes you wonder how they scored 13 points.....but the recap answers that as

1 TD came on a 75 yard kick off return, while TD #2 came on a fumble recovery in the

end zone.....it's probably happened but i have only seen this once before...Memphis

has 0 penalties.....now that is just hard to do.....

-

Quanah.....47............................Shamrock.....8...........................................*QU+27

This was only Quanah's 2nd win this season..but they have given some very good teams

a hard time...most notably a 31-26 loss to #23-Clarendon and a 35-20 loss to #21-Munday

so they are one of the best 2 win teams around.....

-

(#2)Wellington.....27..................(#15)Wheeler.....14.....................................X WL+ 4

I was in the House for this little firecracker of a game. Wellington dashed out to a

13-0 1st Qtr lead which proved to be the difference along with Wheeler's 6 fumbles

of which they lost 2 that both lead to Skyrocket scores...But one must credit Wellington

for mounting a stiffeling defense that kept Wheeler's run in check most of the night and

Wellington's ability to establish enough of a running game to open thier bread and butter

which is the pass play.....so if you could take back the 2 fumbles this would have been

a close and very entertaining game...and it wasn't too bad the way it was.....

---

.......ok then here is whats coming at us for week 10.....

...This Dist. is simple...no 7 game parlees involving ouija boards and Metric tools

...Wellington...Wheeler...Clarendon....all 3 are in and headed to the playoffs

...Quanah...Memphis...Shamrock....are all out...done...no mas...el finito

-

(#1)<<

after all this time at #2 Wellington has made it to the number 1 spot...El Jefe...the grand

mohoff.......Wellington can win the Dist. outright with a win here....i don't see any reason

that won't happen here and the Skyrockets will head out into the Playoffs as the Div. I

representative and with a perfect 5-0 D...10-0 All record.....

-

Memphis.....................................at.....Quanah + 27

The duel of the "doomed"...but I think Quanah will go ahead and play up to thier usual

pesky selves...afterall this is thier last chance at home to show off a little

-

Shamrock..................................at.....(#19)Wheeler + 31

Oh my...the Irish are gonna catch the backlash of Wheeler's only loss this season, but

i started with + 44 and cut it back to +31...Wheeler will have all thier subs and JV into

the game as soon as possible to keep the big guns healthy and keep looking at players

for next years team which will put a throttle on the scoring a bit.....

-----

.......ok....now lets see what happened in 5-1A.....

-

Farwell.....36.............................Morton.....7...............................................* FW+26

Anton and Morton are out of the running.....Farwell now improves to 2-2 D...4-5 All

and is still in the thick of things to earn one of 3 playoff slots....winning in week 10

is the final piece of the puzzle.....

-

Springlake-Earth.....35................Smyer.....6...............................................* SE+21

after 8 games Springlake-Earth has given up 53 points or an average of 6.62 a game

so one could say Smyer was right on the average at 6 points......S-E also now has

a dist. leading record of 3-0 D...7-1 All and needs only to defeat cellar dwellar Morton in week 10 to win the dist. title outright.....

-

Sudan.....1.......**Forfeit**..........Anton.....0.......**Forfeit**...........................NO PICK

---

.....and week 10 will find us following these games.....

-

Farwell.....1......**Forfeit**.........Anton.....0.......**Forfeit**............................NO PICK

-

Morton..............................at.....Springlake-Earth + 37

Springlake-Earth will be at home to trounce Morton and win the District Title in front

of thier fans ending the season at 4-0 D...8-1 All...and they will be the number 1 seed

in Division II entering the playoffs.....

-

Smyer.............................at.....Sudan + 9

This whole thing will be a whole lot simpler if Sudan wins meaning Springlake-Earth,

Sudan and Farwell make the playoffs...if Smyer wins that will cause a 3 way tie at 3-2

and cause the dreaded tie-breaker system to be dusted off....I like Sudan +9 at home

on the simplicity factor

-----

.....6-1A.....The "Cotton Kings".....heres what happened in week 9.....

-

Olton.....49..........................Crosbyton.....15...............................................*OL+19

Crosbyton get thrown under the bus with this loss and Olton keeps an iron grip and

sole possesion of 2nd place behind New deal with a 3-1 D...7-2 All record....Olton

now is a favorite to gain a playoff spot with a win in week 10

-

Lockney.....18.....................Ralls.....15.......................................................*RA+ 9

Well....i took a chance on Ralls and came within 3 points of pulling it off.....Ralls had

to have this one to stay alive and now they "Drawing Dead" as they say in Poker and

Lockney is tied up with Hale Center at 2-2 D going into week 10 to see who gets the

number 3 playoff ticket

-

(#6)New Deal.....35.............Hale Center.....7...............................................*ND+31

The Lions slowed down the pace of the game in the 2nd half playing subs and JV to

get them some much needed time and let the coaches have a look at next years

kids under battle conditions.....

---

.......and week 10 wraps it all up with.....

-

(#5)New Deal + 31.............at.....Crosbyton

The Lions are undeafeated and give up only an average of 3.44 points per game while

scoring an average of 44.00 per game.....Crosbyton is out of the playoff hunt and thier

PF/PA ratio is 214/350.....this could get real ugly.....but a big help for crosbyton is

New Deals 2nd/JV players will be in the game in the 2nd Qtr or so.....

-

Lockney...........................at.....Hale Center + 10

This game decides the 3rd playoff spot to the winner.....while the loser is sent home

until next year.....advantage Hale Center and the Home crowd.....

-

Olton + 30.......................at.....Ralls

Ralls is in the spoiler role but Olton can't take any chances and needs this win to be

sure they haul in a playoff spot and don't have to worry who wins the Hale Center

Vs. Lockney game.....

-----

.......7-1A.....The "Dry and Dusty" District.....week 9 recaps.....

-

(#20)Seagraves.....39..................Forsan.....6.....<<<<<<>>>>.....*SG+33

thats 5 Yahtzees now for those keeping score. The Eagles keep a strong hold on 1st

place outright with a 4-0 D...8-1 ALL record but the district title won't be decided until

week 10's Seagraves-Plains skirmish.....

-

Stanton.....28...........................(#23)Plains.....0...........................................X PL+17

Apparently Stanton was not impressed with Plains #23 ranking or the fact that they

were undefeated....and this certainly puts Stanton right smack dab in the middle of

the chase for one of the 3 playoff berths as they are now 1 game up on Sundown...

-

Sundown.....19.........................Tahoka.....0.................................................*SD+23

the Roughnecks improve to 2-2 D...5-4 All but i'm sure they were not counting on

Stanton's upset of Plains...as now Sundown is in 4th place and must win next week

and have some help just to find a way to squirt into the playoffs.....

-----

.......anddddddddddd.......week 10 action unravels thusly......

-

Forsan.............................at.....Tahoka +1

both 0-4 D and dead in the water.....Tahoka +1 with the home crowd

-

Plains.............................at.....(#20)Seagraves + 18

Newly striped of thier top 25 ranking Plains could win the District crown outright with

a win here at Seagraves. Both teams have made the playoffs but i like Seagraves at

home to claim the Gold Football for the home crowd

-

Sundown........................at.....Stanton +7

Plain and simple this decides the third and final playoff spot.....Stanton just got done

shocking undefeated Plains so why would 5-4 Sundown be a problem ? It shouldn't

and Stanton has the home field advantage

-----

.......8-1A.....The "Morse Code" District......here is what went down in week # 9.....

-

Iraan.....54.......................................Wink.....7..............................................*IR+36

The Braves continue thier tune up games for a hopefully deep playoff run and Wink

is now shooting blanks as they have already blown thier playoff shot.

-

El Paso Cathedral.....50...................Marfa.....17..........................................X MR+15

Ya gotta keep an eye on them private schools or they will sneak up on you such as

Marfa found out.....but it's always a crap shoot when you try to figure out a private

school you've never heard of before.....

-

Van Horn.....44...............................McCamey.....41.....................................*VH+37

+37 ?...well Van Horn is 6-3 and McCamey is 1-8 and believe it or not McCamey is

still in the running for a playoff berth if Marfa loses in week 10

---

.......speaking of week 10.....here it is in 8-1A.....

-

Marfa.....................................at.....Iraan + 43

This win gives Iraan the Dist. Title outright and they don't have to worry about any other

game outcomes and Marfa is going to have to hope for a McCamey loss

-

McCamey + 34......................at.....Wink

So much for McCamey's loss.....so it looks like Iraan, Van Horn and McCamey get all

3 of the playoff berths and Iraan wins the District......wink is down and out and i don't

expect them to put up much of a fight against McCamey

-

Van Horn..............................at.....El Paso Cathedral + 15

Hum...what to do....Van Horn won't win dist. but they are going to the playoffs so this

game really doesn't matter (it's non-district anyway due to a 5 team dist). so is

Van Horn going to play good enough to win ?...i don't think so...EPC + 15 at home

So it has been awhile since I last posted. I just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the area teams that are experiencing success on the field.

The Canadian Wildcats had a dominating run through the post season on their way to their second straigh State Football Championship. They brought home the crown last weekend with a 38-7 win over Mart.
